  • Digital Collection

1993-18-18

1827 letter from the Bishop of Bath and Wells to London. Boxed red line cancel “TO PAY 1D ONLY” and manuscript “1” and two boxed BATH / Py P. denote local post charges. The very clear boxed Old Down hides the boxed No.14, the Receiving House no. for Temple Cloud.  Members of Parliament were entitled to send mail “FREE” of charges, but still had to pay local post charges.  This entire received a double ring backstamp in London on arrival on 20 August.
